I was very lucky to receive a PR package with the Bare Minerals Original Foundation a couple of months ago. Originally, I was only going to post a review on Instagram. However, after wearing this foundation EVERY SINGLE DAY for the past 2 months, I would be amiss not to give it a full review. Scroll to the bottom of this article if you’re interested in winning the GIVEAWAY.
When I first received this foundation, I was skeptical that it would dry my face out because it’s a powder, but it actually didn’t. Somehow, despite being a powder, this foundation gives the perfect amount of dewiness. It gives me full coverage, doesn’t dry out my face, and makes me look glowy (see below for a picture of the finish).
Why Bare Minerals?
I can very confidently say, I love this foundation and I don’t plan on switching anytime soon. If we are connected on Instagram, you’ve probably heard me talk a bit about pore clogging ingredients. I plan to do a full blog post about them, so I won’t be talking too in depth about them in this post. But, the Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation has no pore cloggers. Natural mineral foundations are ideal for anyone who has acne or tends to breakout. The simple ingredients won’t irritate skin or clog pores and they do not contain oil.
$29.00 at BareMinerals.com and Ulta.com. I have purchased this on Amazon.com in the past and noticed that certain colors are cheaper than others! It may be worth to check it out there (see below for the current price, or click here to go straight to the listing). Depending on how much you use, and how often you use it, this make up could last you a long time. For my particular use (I like full coverage), the Bare Minerals Original Foundation lasts approximately 4-5 months.
How I Use It:
I use this product nearly everyday. Generally, I use it after I shower and wash my face. I don’t use this on a daily basis with any primer, as I don’t find it necessary for everyday use. It stays on very well through my 8 hour work day! I typically use the Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation with the Bare Minerals Flawless Face brush. I use brushes with more dense bristles when I want more coverage, and loser bristles when I just want a wash of color. The Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation also works well with the brushes below:
I use the foundation as a concealer to start with, just use a smaller brush to cover imperfections, those red spider lines around my nose and on the eyelids. Then, I pour some of the powder into the cap of the container. I lightly dab my make up brush into the powder making sure I don’t have too much powder on the brush. If I use too much in one location it can get cakey, so I like to slowly build it up. I apply the make up starting on my cheeks. I apply it in circular motions “buffing” it into my skin. Ta-Dah! Easy enough.
I typically get enough coverage with the powder foundation, but on days that I use liquid concealer, I conceal and brighten first, set that, and then use the powder foundation after that. It feels slightly unnatural to do it in that order at first, but I got used to it very quickly.
Tips & Tricks:
- Use a good moisturizer or primer underneath the Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation to help the powder go on more smoothly.
- Apply liquid or cream concealer prior to Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation.
- Start with a light application and slowly build it up as needed. This will help to avoid creasing and caking.
- A setting powder used on top will help to keep shine at bay and help your makeup to last longer.
Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation Final Thoughts:
The Bare Minerals Original Foundation covers my acne, redness, large pores, and imperfections. The make-up itself stays on for majority of the day; by the end of the day I can notice some wear. I do notice at the end of the day I am oily looking, however, I can typically blot my face with a tissue and then I’m matte again for a few hours. I think the “natural” look of the make up is the best part. It really does look like I am not wearing any make up, but it gives me flawless skin. I will notice if I go in heavy handed, it can get cakey and build up on certain areas of my face. That is easily avoided by tapping off the brush to make sure that the product is evenly distributed around my face. I love how fast it is to apply in the mornings.
Another plus is that’s the formula is so gentle you can sleep in it and it wont upset your skin, and lets face it we all have the odd night when skincare goes out the window. However, I would NEVER recommend sleeping in your makeup.
